1985 Steve Carlson Flatiron A-5 Mandolin

An absolutely "as new", Montana-made Flatiron mandolin, that's spent the last 25+ years stored in a closet. We bought the mandolin, just as it had been stored, with strings, bridge and tailpiece removed. We installed nickel Gotoh tuners with ebony buttons and a nickel James tailpiece. Our luthier, Jim Bennett, installed a new pearl nut and fitted a Randy Wood ebony bridge; with perfect, original frets and the new set-up, the mandolin plays easy and sounds great. Like most Carlson-era Flatirons, this mandolin has tons of volume and great "bark", making it perfect for bluegrass music.

This mandolin is built of extra fancy Curly maple and has a highly figured Sitka spruce top. It's stained, with more of a shaded finish, than a sunburst. The flat fretboard is made of ebony and the extension has been "scooped", to enhance playability. The mandolin comes with a new TKL-like hard case. The price is SOLD; sorry, this mandolin is no longer available.
