Master Model
Sounding as good as it looks, this mandolin's Engelmann top produces a mellow, sweet tone. Plenty loud, this mandolin is very responsive, even across all the strings, and has an airy "pop", that gives it a little different sound from a mandolin topped with red spruce. "Big Mon" Master Model
This mandolin has a Adirondack spruce top and Premium Sugar maple one piece back, sides, and neck. It includes a silver-plated James tailpiece and Waverly tuners w/ ebony buttons. It has the Modern set-up, with traditional radius fingerboard, and a recent re-fret with heavy fret wire and new bone nut. This mandolin was used daily, by a performing bluegrass musician, and has the tone, volume and big chop expected from the Big Mon model. "Big Mon" Master Model
Constructed with Premium Red maple and an Adirondack spruce top, this killer Big Mon also includes, a silver-plated James tailpiece and a violin finish neck. It has Northfield's Modern set-up with 1 1/8" bone nut, heavy fret wire and smaller radius on the fingerboard. Played sparingly, this mandolin is in "like new" condition, with only a few very minor handling marks and light "checking" of the very thin, spirit varnish finish. Its' sound is all that mandolin players have come to expect from Northfield. Great tone and volume to spare; it also has a strong chop and the "woofiness" Big Mon models are prized for. "Big Mon" Master Model
This might be the "King Kong" of all Big Mon models. We've heard, seen, owned, and played lots of Northfields, standard F-5s and Big Mons and if this isn't the very best, it's at least in the top two or three. Premium Red Maple, Adirondack Spruce, and Northfield's attention to detail, has resulted in one powerful mandolin. Extras include: a James tailpiece and a violin finish neck. This mandolin has the traditonal fingerboard, with a modest radius and D-shape neck profile. It's had a recent re-fret and new set-up, with heavy fret wire, 1 1/16" pearl nut and a tune-up/re-fit of the bridge assembly. It now plays better than new. The varnish finish exhibits honest play wear. A varnish finish Master Model, constructed with Premium Red maple and an Adirondack Red spruce top, This mandolin was recentley returned from our luthier, with a refret and new set-up. The set-up included a new pearl nut, new ebony Northfield bridge and an upgrade to a new James tailpiece from Northfield; with the fret work, new set-up and new hardware, this mandolin plays like new! This mandolin has been used over the past three years by a working musician and has plenty of honest play wear to prove it, There are lots of small "dings" in the varnish, smooth finish wear on the back of the neck and some pick marks on the top (concealed by pickguard), but it's still a terrific looking mandolin with great color, sunburst and "character". This mandolin has the signature Northfield tone, terrific "bark" and punchiness, with plenty of volume! It has a big sound that will not disappoint.
